As in past years, our 2009 Vacation Bible School was a successful endeavor for our Sunday School at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church. The scriptures tell us to "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation” (Mark 16:15), which encompasses the fundamental purpose of V.B.S.; to spread the word about Christ and His teachings. From July 26-July 30, our church embraced numerous children and adults each evening for fellowship, exciting activities, and Christian education. The attendees of this year’s V.B.S. took an adventure through the swamp with our “Crocodile Dock” themed curriculum. Following a nightly dinner hosted by our church aid organizations, an assembly was held at the beginning of V.B.S. each night to prepare the children for the activities that awaited them for the evening. Led by their crew leaders, the enrolled children rotated through four phenomenal stations nightly: Bible Bayou, Crawfish Crafts and Missions, Gator Games, and Snack Shack, each led by station leaders who prepared diligently to create a rewarding experience for each group. For those students under Kindergarten age, Rocky’s Preschool entertained them in a Christian setting, and, for the adults, Bible study was conducted. At the end of each night, all attendees gathered together in our church social hall for an energetic finale and a fundraising effort for “Mer Hooys,” a charitable organization that aims to assist disadvantaged young adults in Armenia with housing, job skills, training, and development of life skills. Through this venue, all who participated in V.B.S. gained the ability to share their good fortune with those in Armenia who are in need of a helping hand. An event of this magnitude required a tremendous amount of dedication on the part of our church’s parishioners and friends. Hence, this year’s V.B.S. was undoubtedly a community effort. Volunteers within our church engaged themselves in months of preparation for this event, illustrating their commitment to reinforcing the importance of fellowship, youth development, and, most importantly, the teachings of our Christian faith.
